Identify the scope boundary
A repair restores equipment to its original design condition. An alteration changes the design or pressure-retaining capability. Classification and the required procedure must be established by the appropriate competent parties; describing work as maintenance does not remove regulatory obligations.
Alberta authorization matters
ABSA’s contractor guidance identifies Certificate of Authorization Permit requirements and scope limits for pressure-equipment work. Proposed repair procedures must follow the applicable acceptance and notification process before work begins. Refer to AB-513 and confirm current requirements directly.
Specify a documented closeout
Depending on the work, records may include material traceability, joining procedures, examination results, testing, inspection and certification. Agree these deliverables before procurement. This website does not offer instructions for welding, pressure testing or changing protective settings.
