Understand the existing burner
Record fuel type, input range, burner model, control platform and documented operating issues. Trend firing rate, cycling and demand before choosing an upgrade. A controls change cannot correct a fundamentally mismatched boiler duty.
Assess an upgrade
Consider turndown, plant sequencing, communication with existing systems, available fuel pressure, and how commissioning will be documented. Any efficiency or emissions benefit needs a defined baseline and measured verification.
Keep safeguards independent
Flame supervision, low-water protection, interlocks and relief protection are safety functions. Work must be assessed by competent, appropriately authorized personnel. Never bypass a trip or use an online guide to change a safety setpoint.
