Start with applicability
Alberta’s Safety Codes Act, Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation and related regulations govern pressure equipment. Applicability and exemptions depend on the equipment and installation. Use ABSA’s current acts, regulations and codes index and discuss the actual installation with ABSA when uncertain.
Keep the responsibilities clear
The owner retains responsibility for safe equipment. Regulatory integrity assessments and inspection permits are distinct from routine servicing. ABSA guidance describes the appropriate inspection routes and the need to verify authorization scope for regulated work.
Build an evidence trail
Confirm applicable design registration and equipment records, the required inspection permit, competent operating personnel and the authorization of organizations performing regulated activities. For repairs or alterations, establish the required notification, acceptance and certification path before work.
